ANNA, IL—At the regular meeting of the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Board of Education, the A-J Junior Wildcats Wrestling Club expressed its appreciation to the school board for allowing the club to host its tournament at their facilities each year and singled out the high school wrestling and softball teams for their assistance this year.
“What made this year’s tournament extra special was the level of community involvement. In particular, the high school wrestling and softball teams provided us with the manpower to run the tables that frankly we couldn’t have done this without. We’d like to return the favor,” said club president Rollie Hawk before presenting each team with a $500 donation from the club.
Several members of the school board commented on the positive impact the tournament had on the community, in particular the economic impact of so many people making the commute to Union County for the tournament.
Head softball coach Brian Wilson expressed his appreciation for the donation and amazement at the size of the wrestling tournament.
“I got here at 7:30 and this place was already packed,” said Wilson. “I hope we can do this again next year.”
