GAZETTE-DEMOCRAT: Local wrestlers compete during summer months

Competing in youth and high school wrestling usually means bundling up for long, cold rides either early in the morning or late at night in the dead of winter.
But for a few, wrestling is too much fun to limit to a single season.
On Saturday, July 14, Carterville High School hosted its third annual Carterville Lions Wrestling Open, featuring 14 brackets, with age groups ranging from grade school up through college and beyond.
“It’s a completely different atmosphere with summer wrestling,” said A-J Junior Wildcats Wrestling assistant coach Rollie Hawk.
